How to Create a Six-Step Plan for Your Own Personal Development

Self-development, to many people, may seem very difficult– even hopeless– at times. However, with a view tips and a good plan to help you, you can succeed and accomplish your personal development goals. The tips below will help you to create a better self, whether for your body, mind, or both.

Try to get rid of negativity in your life. If you have very negative friends on social media sites, remove their posts from your feed. Read your news online instead of watching the news, because the news tends to be largely negative. If there are negative people in your workplace or school, try to reverse their negativity. Place positive affirmation post-its around your workplace with phrases like, “You deserve a great day” or other similar notions.

Think about your positive qualities rather than your negative. Concentrate on your great personality, hair style, level of fitness, et cetera over things you dislike about yourself. Recognize that other people do not see your flaws the way that you see them, and that you are attractive to some people.

Set goals and begin the process of reaching them, step by step. Choose small, easy goals first, to give yourself momentum for success. Start training for a marathon by running a mile a day, as opposed to running a marathon and setting yourself up to fail. Smaller steps are easier to accomplish and will allow you to be successful more often. Excellence is a habit– you need to work to achieve it.

Read self-help books, especially ones written by psychiatrists, as opposed to celebrities. Though celebrities may have flashier books, psychiatrists’ books are based in fact and therefore are more reliable and helpful.

Find a hobby you are good at, enjoy, and have interest in, and stick to it. Setting yourself up in an environment where you are likely to succeed and enjoy doing well will make you more likely to do well in other things, too.

If you seem to have lost control of your life, visit a psychiatrist. Though you may think you are just ‘in a rut’, you may actually be in serious psychological trouble. Therefore, your best option may be to see a professional who can assess that for him or her self.

Be aware that failure is always possible. The response to failure is what determines how it affects you long-term– namely, if you will succeed beyond and after your failure. Missing a day of training, forgetting to do something, or not losing a goal amount of weight is not going to inherently ruin your chances of success later, as your continue to strive toward your goals.

Although changing yourself may seem difficult at first, it is always possible (though not always easy) to change yourself and grow as a person. By using the process above, you will be able to make yourself happier, and become the person you have always wanted to be–making you happier than you may have been in a long time.
