Do You Want To Quit Smoking?

December 6, 2013 by Blog Editor

You are more than likely fully aware of how bad smoking is for your health. If you want to learn more about quitting, you should go over this article.

You need to figure out in which situations you are likely to smoke. A lot of smokers get into the habit of having a cigarette after a meal, when they spend time with friends or when they get in their car. You should get a journal and keep track of how many cigarettes you smoke in a day as well as the places or situations in which you smoke.

Focus on getting over these habits one at a time. You could for instance get into the habit of eating a piece of sugar-free candy at the end of a meal instead of smoking. If possible, avoid the places, situations and people you associate with smoking until you have managed to quit and do not experience cravings anymore. Talk to you friends and relatives and ask them not to smoke in front of you.

You need an efficient way to get over your cravings. Some people manage to quit thanks to nicotine gums or e-cigarettes, but you can also get over your cravings by relaxing and waiting for the sensation to go away. Do some relaxation or meditation exercises, breathe deeply and go for a walk if you want to focus on something different. If you manage to completely stay away from your cigarettes, you will only experience intense cravings for less than a week.

Give yourself some goals and a deadline. You should have some precise goals to cut down your smoking. You could for instance try reducing the number of cigarettes you usually smoke on a daily basis. Reward yourself when you meet your goals and try different methods if you do not. Be realistic; remember that quitting can take a lot of time, especially if you have been smoking for years.

Your cravings and the other negative feelings you experience will disappear within a week if you are able to quit cold turkey and avoid exposure to nicotine completely. This means things will be a lot easier once you have gone through a whole week without smoking. If you are a heavy smoker, focus on cutting down your smoking as much as possible before you decide to quit cold turkey.

Find a way to manage your stress and other negative emotions that you may feel when you quit. If you usually get stressed at work, plan on taking a couple of weeks off so you can relax and focus on quitting. When you experience stress, do some simple breathing exercises, take a break from what you are doing and go for a walk. Meditation and relaxation techniques will probably help you a lot too.

You should use these tips to cut down on your smoking and eventually get over your addiction for good. Quitting requires a lot of efforts but it will reduce your chances of developing many health conditions and help you save money.
