A Few Things You Should Know Before You Quit Smoking

Are you thinking about quitting smoking? If yes, you should read this article for some useful information.

Motivation is absolutely necessary. You should know that a lot of smokers experience intense stress and other negative emotions when they try quitting. You can overcome these negative emotions if you are ready to focus on your goal and wait for the strong cravings to go away without giving in. Make a list of reasons why you want to quit smoking and look over your list when you need to resist cravings.

There are products designed to help you quit smoking such as nicotine patches, nicotine gums and e-cigarettes. These products are helpful if your goal is to cut down your smoking because you will be able to satisfy your cravings with these alternatives. However, using these products means you keep introducing nicotine into your system. This will cause your system to release toxins. Once toxins are present in your system, you will find yourself craving a cigarette. Using these products will help you make your cravings disappear but you will not get over your addiction to nicotine until you are ready to avoid any kind of exposure to this substance.

Once you have managed to cut down on cigarettes, with or without the help of nicotine patches, gums or e-cigarettes, you need to quit cold turkey. Have one last cigarette if you need to and prepare yourself to experience strong cravings. The cravings and other withdrawal symptoms will be strong at first but they will quickly become less intense as toxins leave your system. You can accelerate this process by eliminating toxins.

The best way to eliminate toxins is to sweat. Drink plenty of water and find an efficient cardio workout that will help you work up a sweat. You could also go sit in a sauna for a whole hour everyday. If possible, wait until the summer months to quit smoking or go on a vacation to a warm place where you will be sweating a lot. You should also avoid exposure to new toxins by staying away from junk food, caffeine, alcohol, second hand smoke and pollution if possible.

Find an efficient way to keep your stress and cravings under control. When you feel stressed, you should take a break from what you are doing and do some relaxation exercises. Breathing deeply, adopting a yoga pose or simply going for a walk should help you focus on something else than your cravings. Being more active and adopting a healthy diet will help you a lot. You could join a yoga class or go to counseling if you need help with applying stress management techniques. Make sure you relax for at least an hour a day and do things you enjoy to keep your mind off your attempts to quit smoking.

Are you ready to start working on getting over your nicotine addiction? Prepare yourself by doing more research on techniques and products you can use to help you quit.
